Darren CooganCharing Cross Hospital once stood not far from the Themes River in heart of London, England. Today the spot is home to an Underground train station. My link to that site is a flag sized birth certificate. Within two years my folks sold the Austin Mini, stuffed our Irish culture in  the overhead compartment of a 747 and flew to Canada to set up life.

Much of my youth was spend on the soccer pitch. The beautiful game runs  in the blood. In fact dad can still run circles around me! Through soccer travels and a number of family jaunts back to England and Ireland, I’ve developed a taste for travel. If there’s a vacation brochure lying around, I’m looking at it!

My earliest music memory is of my mom playing the spoons along to an  Irish jig. Soon it was “Sugar Sugar” by The Archies followed shortly thereafter by Led Zeppelin!

I grew up listening to rock radio out of Vancouver and Seattle and it became quite obvious by the amount of time I spent flopped on the couch - headphones on, lost in sound - that I was drawn to this industry. It’s pretty crazy being paid to play music. What makes it even better is having the opportunity every day to chat about music both on-air and  off. So if you ever feel the need to blow a few minutes yapping about Classic Rock, feel free to call 649-0993 weekdays between 9 and 2.

Cheers!
